Claims Assistance
The Warrior Portal connects veterans to a veterans claims assistance network that can help submit a claim to the VA, but only you can determine who best meets your needs. Several New Jersey organizations that help veterans with claims, including Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs) like the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and American Legion, can help file claims on your behalf. County & State personnel are also available to provide you with claims support.
The success of veterans claims assistants in improving VA claims stems from their specialized knowledge, experience, and commitment to serving veterans' best interests.
Expertise and Experience
VSOs have deep knowledge and experience in navigating the complex VA system. They understand the intricacies of the claims process, including the required documentation, procedures, and legal requirements.
Dedicated Assistance
VSOs have trained staff and volunteers who specialize in assisting veterans with claims. These individuals often have firsthand experience with the VA system and are well-versed in the laws and regulations related to veterans' benefits.
Access to Resources
VSOs have access to a wide range of resources that can support veterans' claims. These resources enhance their ability to build strong cases and advocate effectively on behalf of veterans.
Assistance with Documentation
VSOs assist veterans in obtaining and organizing the required documentation for their claims. They can help veterans understand what evidence is needed to support their claims and guide them in gathering relevant medical records, service records, and other supporting documents. By ensuring that claims are well-documented, VSOs increase the likelihood of a successful outcome.
Appeals and Legal Support
VSOs are equipped to handle appeals, provide legal support, help navigate the appeals process, and can even represent veterans before the VA's Board of Veterans' Appeals.
Policy Advocacy
VSOs advocate for policy change within the VA system. They work closely with lawmakers and government agencies to identify systemic issues, propose reforms, and advocate for veterans' rights.
Emotional and Moral Support
VSOs understand the challenges and frustrations that veterans face and provide guidance, reassurance, and a sense of camaraderie during the claims process.
Track Record and Credibility
VSOs have a long history of advocating for veterans' rights and improving the VA claims process. These offices have built relationships with and earned the trust of veterans, the VA, and other stakeholders.

New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Veteran Service Officers are experienced and credentialed advocates for assistance in obtaining benefits earned through service to our county in the Armed Forces. DMAVA VSOs provide education of, advocacy for and access to the federal and state benefits offered to veterans in New Jersey.
DMAVA VSOs have expertise in VA benefits across the areas of Benefits, Health, Education, Debt Management, and Cemeteries. They have success representing and advocating for veterans throughout the VA claims process from the initial claim through the appeals process and representing veterans before Law Judges of the Board of Veterans Appeals. Through this advocacy DMAVA VSOs bring tens of millions of dollars of VA benefits home to our veterans every year.
For information about assistance for professional licenses for veterans and their families we encourage veterans to reach out to the Division of Consumer Affairs hotline at 973-504-6210 or emailing them at [email protected]
Please find a list of DMAVA VSOs for each county above.
